Technical Theatre Camp
The art of Backstage!Interested in the world of backstage and technical theatre?
In partnership with the stagehands’ union local #412, kids aged 12-18 will work with skilled union technicians in hands-on activities that will open their minds to complexities and possibilities of a life in the theatre that’s behind the scenes. With unprecedented access to the corners of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall that the audience never sees, participants will learn from the people who truly know the “business of show”.
Each day will focus on a specific stage craft, and participants will build their tech toolbox, with both information AND actual tools of the trade.
The camp will focus on these five crafts: Carpentry, Wardrobe/Hair/Makeup, Electrics, Flys, Audio/Visual.
We are offering TWO one-week camps.
Cost is $250/week with financial aid available.
Interested campers can take BOTH weeks for a reduced rate of $450.
beginner Camp!
is designed for the younger student, the beginner, and will run from June 16-20, 2025, 9am-3pm. Ages 12-18!
Advanced Camp!
is open to those students who have attended last year’s camp OR who can demonstrate an advanced knowledge of backstage crafts.
Advanced Camp will run from June 23-27, 2025, 9am-3pm. Ages 15-18!
